Hi, I’m Max Kirkby. I’m a Research Scientist at Base Labs and Baseten in San Francisco. I’m originally from Adelaide, South Australia.

I co-founded Parsed, which was acquired by Baseten in late 2025. I now co-lead research at Base Labs.

Previously I was a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford, where I completed a PhD in Computational Neuroscience with Thomas Akam and Tim Behrens.

Before I left Australia I co-founded Rake in 2023, which was a personalised news platform built with language models. I was also a Tuckwell Scholar at the ANU, where I completed a Bachelor of Philosophy (Science) in neuroscience and mathematics.
